CRS - IPTS Workshop on Vaccine Development

Chairs: Sevda Şenel and Gerrit Borchard

Infectious diseases are one of the foremost causes of death worldwide. The recent experiences with various flu epidemics reveal the global aspects of both disease and treatment. In this regard, vaccination is by far the most effective strategy to not merely treat but actually prevent disease and its spread. Vaccination strategies today not only address infectious disease but also are employed therapeutically, e.g., cancer.

To quickly respond to the threat of emerging infectious diseases, as well as to increase the efficiency of vaccination against existing diseases, new vaccines, novel adjuvants, and new vaccine delivery systems are being developed. These must be submitted to a rigorous regulatory process, which may pose a challenge, especially to the development of new adjuvants and delivery systems.

This workshop is dedicated to discussing current issues in vaccine development from the perspective of experts in the field from academia, regulatory, and industry.

In addition to the plenary lectures, a poster session will give participating scientits the  opportunity to present their recent results on vaccine formulation,  and provide a platform for information exchange between academia and industry. Those who wish to contribute a poster presentation are requested to follow the instructions given on the website of IPTS (http://ipts-hacettepe.org/content/guidelines-abstracts).
